Ricoh Theta V Examples

This section showcases different locations and settings where people have operated the Ricoh Theta V

Perlan Ice Cave

Perlan Ice Cave (Ricoh Theta V) – Islanti – 360 | Ne Tammelat

Why watch this?

  • This is an excellent example of how the footage is likely to look in low-light conditions
  • It is an ice cave so there is also reflectivity to consider while shooting
  • This is also an interesting example where you can see a second recording device (so the person is holding two poles at the same time)

Why is this relevant?

Multi-device recording of narrow spaces in touristy lighting (these are lights made to attract and are often in different colors) is something you might come across in your project

Inner Space Cavern

Inner Space Cavern (Theta V 360 teaser) – by Elsie’s Travels

Why watch this?

  • An excellent example of Theta V footage in low light.
  • There is minimal reflectivity, so not a lot of the ambient light gets into the camera lenses.
  • A good example of how the 360 video looks while in fast motion (note the tearing of the footage)

Why is this relevant?

The way you hold the camera and the speed you walk matters a lot!

American Museum of Natural History

Tyrannosaurus Rex – AMNH Ricoh Theta V 360 Video – by John Chu

Why watch this?

  • This is a very good example of how the video will look in good, ambient indoor lighting.
  • It is also a good example of how to hold the camera in a crowded space.
  • Note that the grainy edges of the video could be a combination of the camera settings and how Youtube renders 360 videos.

Why is this relevant?

Depending on your subject, the height of your camera will be different. Choose one person to hold the camera so that there is consistency across your different videos.

Field Test in Plainsfield, Illinois

Ricoh Theta V 360 degree camera video test – by Sean Cochran

Why watch this?

  • This video is a static (no movement) recording with the Theta V on a tripod by a busy street in Plainfield, Illinois (bright and sunny day)
  • A good example of one possible way how people might react to a 360 Camera recording them.
  • Also a good example of how 360 videos generally look on Youtube

Why is this relevant?

People react differently when you record them. Be careful about who you record!

Field Test in 5th Avenue, NYC

Ricoh Theta V Spatial Audio Test in NYC – by John Chu

Why watch this?

  • This is a very good example of how the output looks like when it comes to Theta’s Spatial Audio feature.
  • It is also a good example of the height at which the tripod should be held.
  • The person also used two different audio sources throughout the video (one audio source at a time). The in-built microphone is susceptible to wind noise.

How is relevant?

For IQP teams going to record spatial audio to create soundscapes using the Theta V.
